The short version
OpenEng is local-first by design. Your code, repositories, clusters, kubeconfigs, terminal output, and boards stay on your own machine. The OpenEng apps are thin browser clients that talk to an engine you run locally; that work is never sent to, processed by, or stored on our servers. The only personal data we handle is the minimum needed to sign you in.
Who we are
This policy describes how OpenEng (“OpenEng”, “we”, “us”) handles information in connection with the OpenEng websites at openeng.app and the OpenEng apps — Terminal, Kubernetes, Data, Git, and Board. You can reach us at hello@openeng.app.
Data that stays on your device
Everything you do inside an OpenEng app executes in a local engine on your hardware. The browser and the engine talk over a sealed channel relayed by OpenEng's broker — sealed end-to-end, so the broker only ever passes through ciphertext it cannot read. We do not receive, transmit, or retain:
- your source code, repositories, diffs, commits, or git credentials;
- your terminal commands, command history, or output;
- your kubeconfig, cluster data, logs, or secrets;
- your boards, diagrams, or notes;
- API keys, passwords, tokens, or private keys.
Account and authentication data
To pair your browser with your local engine you sign in once using Google Sign-In. Through that flow we receive a basic account identifier and the email address associated with your Google account. We use this solely to authenticate you and to operate the sign-in service. We do not sell this information or use it for advertising.
Website analytics and cookies
The marketing site at openeng.app aims to collect as little as possible. We do not use third-party advertising trackers. Any cookies or local storage used by the apps exist to keep you signed in and to remember local preferences. Standard server logs (such as IP address and request metadata) may be processed transiently by our hosting provider to deliver the site securely.
How we use information
- to authenticate you and connect your browser to your local engine;
- to provide, maintain, and secure the service;
- to respond to support requests you send us.
Sharing
We do not sell your personal data. We share account information only with the infrastructure providers that operate authentication and hosting on our behalf (for example, Google for sign-in and our cloud hosting provider), and only to the extent needed to run the service or to comply with the law.
Data retention
Because your work never leaves your machine, there is nothing for us to retain about it. Account information is kept for as long as your account is active. You can ask us to delete your account information at any time.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete the account information we hold about you, and to object to certain processing. To exercise any of these rights, email hello@openeng.app.
Children
OpenEng is intended for developers and is not directed to children under 13.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the date at the top of this page.
